Did you wake up one day and realize "Hey, I'm heterosexual!" I didn't.......it was just the usual progression of puberty. It was never a decision or sudden realization. I had nothing to do with this any more than I had anything to do with being born white in America.
I heard an interviewer ask a lesbian woman once, "When did you realize you were gay?" She answered, "When did you realize you weren't?" GREAT RESPONSE.......
Oklahoma is so homophobic we have a state representative proposing legislation to ban all marriage in Oklahoma just to prevent same sex marriages. WOW...... this follows a tactic tried by Governor Fallin in November when she tried to avoid granting military benefits to same-sex spouses, by stopping spousal benefits for all married couples at state National Guard facilities.
The only time my husband and I have disagreements is over stuff like this. When I asked him this morning what he thought about the ban on marriage his response was, "Well I guess that would solve all the marriage problems." I immediately got hot because I guess I wanted him to immediately say how stupid and mean spirited the whole idea was and I didn't listen to everything he was trying to say. He added....no marriage, no divorce etc. Then I said yes, and no claiming dependents or dependent coverage on health insurance or all the other benefits of marriage that same sex couples have been fighting to receive. We will just deny those benefits to everyone. Yep, that makes sense. Cut off your nose to spite your face.
Now, on another note.......Bella LaGrossy isn't so grossy anymore. We got her groomed yesterday. Ron dropped her off before church and we picked up after afterward. She wasn't banned from ever coming back so we took that as a good sign. They tried to put bows above her ears and were successful in getting one in but she wasn't going to stand for the other one. But she looks good. I'll get a picture and post it of our toothless glamor girl!
In case you missed the 60 minutes show this past Sunday you can see it in its entirety here. The first story is called "No Where To Go".......it is a personal account of one young man's battle with mental illness.
Why do we accept this in our country? Why?

That is certainly an enlightened solution. And people worried that August: Osage County gives OK a bad name.
Wow, just wow!
I saw the piece on 60 minutes, I felt for the person..when one cannot access any mental health services it just isn't the person who is suffering how about his family (familia)?? I have a friend whose daughter has schizophrenia she used to not take her medicine, now she absolutely does, she lives with her mother my friend, she is totally disabled and not able to work, yet she volunteers at a public library and a animal shelter almost 5 days a week keeping busy, soon my friend will retire, I have no idea how the balance of her life will be, she is on some kind of ssdi benefit but could never live by herself..37 and counting, her mother has had many many heartbreaks with this daughter many family member hate her for all the time and money her mother has had to give up so she can just live and not a normal life at all, for the Love of God, mental illness is a treatable disease just like alcoholism, vd. gonorrhea why can't the health companies and public policy realize this, many suffer needlessly when what most people need is counseling some form of therapy and some help with non-toxic forms of a drug or two, not the kind that just drugs them up..why, in the greatest country in the world many are denied mental health treatment cause they are poor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anonymous, you are so right! I have a schizophrenic brother and I understand what your friend is going through.
I heard an interviewer ask a lesbian woman once, "When did you realize you were gay?" She answered, "When did you realize you weren't?" ....... That is the best response I have EVER heard!!!
I too saw the 60 Minutes interview. I'm writing about it tomorrow. And, anonymous, re: "mental illness is a treatable disease just like alcoholism, vd. gonorrhea" treatable, yes ... curable, no. And treatments, the best treatments, do not always work. On some people even when taken properly they just don't work. I have a 32 yr old daughter who so very badly wants to be "normal" and who has tried every drug, multiple combinations, been under multiple psychiatrists care for more than half her life and while she is better nothing has given her even one day when she didn't have to struggle.
I do want to clarify that Anonymous I do agree with your statements, especially the last one.
