and by the way...

Something I forgot to mention in my last post was how as teenagers we had a snooker table set up in our garage. My dad was quite the pool shark and we spent hours trying our best to beat him. The garage floor was painted red and when I had the opportunity to tour the old house I was taken through the garage. The first thing I spotted was the circle on the worn painted floor right where the snooker table had stood. I could almost hear my dad and the sounds of my friends echo through the garage. The new homeowners had been told by former neighbors about the snooker table and my dad so they were happy to hear my first hand account of our games. How nostalgic the tour was and it sure brought back great memories. Everyone should knock on the door of a childhood home. You never know what you will find!

I've often thought I'd like to do that, but haven't. Last Oct. we were in Norfolk, where we lived for 5 years. Mr. kenju went to the house we used to live in and talked to the people who have lived there for the past 38+ years. They didn't buy it from us, but from the people we sold to. They didn't invite him in - and stood at the door and talked for 15 minutes, even though it was cold and rainy that day.

Kenju, that's too bad. I guess I didn't think that someone might not want to invite a stranger into their home. I suppose a lone female (like myself) didn't feel too threatening.

Still wanting to visit my childhood home. Your description of the garage where you played really brought back the memories for me.

I would love to see the inside of my childhood home! I've driven by it and the outside of it has changed so much, I can only imagine how the inside has changed.
If I close my eyes, I can picture it as it was when I was growing up there. I loved sitting in front of our "picture window" when a thunderstorm blew in and watch the lightening . . .
Maybe one day when I drive by I'll knock on the door and ask for a tour.
