Sorrow in Colorado

The shooting in Colorado has really been on my mind.  My heart goes out to everyone impacted by the shooting.  I can't help but wonder if the shooter has some form of mental illness that has gone undiagnosed or untreated for some time.  I know that doesn't change anything as far as responsibility but it just makes me think something is wrong with this guy.  His mother did not sound surprised when she was contacted about the shooting.  I believe she said, "You have the right guy" or something like that.  I guess there were signs that something was wrong.  It's a miracle that more people were not killed with the amount of weapons and ammunition he had.  It was definitely a well planned attack.

So, when does someone have the right to step in if you suspect that someone may be going over the edge?  What can you do?  Where do you get help?  We've asked these questions before and there never seems to be any answers.  It seems that nothing can be done until AFTER someone gets hurt or killed.

It seems as though Colorado has had its share of bad times, and I too feel sorrow for victims and families. Surely that young man had some disordered thinking and I wonder if he had any kind of help or support. But as you know all too well, help cannot be forced. Such a sad situation.

There is definitely something wrong with the shooter. He is evil, but let's not start thinking he's insane. He knew what he was doing was wrong. And, the fact that his parents are refusing to cooperate with the authorities might tell you something about their mindset when it comes to their overprivileged baby boy.

I don't have much sympathy with the state of Colorado, either. They have NO gun laws to speak of. That may be why this kind of thing has happened so often there.

The parents aren't cooperating because they are getting the advice of an attorney. In a "sue-happy" society --- you have to watch what you say to avoid being sued. I am sure his parents are absolutely devastated the same way the parents of the Columbine shooters were.

I was stunned by his mother's cold comment. She obviously wanted nothing to do with him. Still, who could have possibly forseen such a horror. It is beyond human comprehension.

It's hard to know what was going on in this young man's mind. I feel for everyone impacted by his act of violence.
